Well done to Celtic on winning the All-Ireland Championships in Sligo. The Waterford
club qualified for the event as S-Tyres Men's Division
One League winners. In the Semi-Finals they accounted for the host
club, Sligo 3-2 in the Semi-Finals where Brian Knox won the decider against
Niall Caheny 3-2 to clinch it.
In the Final they met Fitzwilliam (who won their semi-final 3/1 winners against
Galway). Ray Crowley beat Gerry Callanan 3-0; Anthony
Lyons beat Darren Mylotte 3-2; Paul Freyne beat Nigel
Peyton 3-2; Kevin Knox lost to Dara O'Flynn 3-2 and the Brian
Knox v Brian Byrne match was not played.
Senior Interprovincial Championships:
This season's event was played in The Galway LTC in Salthill. Without Patrick
Foster (coaching in Bermuda!), John Hurley (wrist injury from football!) and
Phil Cullinane (Baby Boy!) unfortunately they didn't manage to retain their
titles, despite the presence of Irish No.1 Liam Kenny. The team was selected
from the top finishers at the JD Scaffolding
Munster Senior Closed in Killarney and the Munster
Senior Open. We are grateful to Leo O'Brien and French
Homes Direct for their generous sponsorship of team gear.
Eleanor Lapthorne on Irish Team:
Eleanor Lapthorne (Highfield) played on the Irish team in the European Team
Championship in Amsterdam in April. The Women's Team was Madeline Perry, Aisling
Blake, Laura Mylotte and Eleanor Lapthorne. They had their best finish in years
coming 3rd. More info can be found on the Irish
Squash Site.
J.D. Scaffolding Munster Senior Closed 2005:
The Munster Senior Closed
was a great success in Tralee and Killarney where John Hurley and Eleanor Lapthorne
retained their titles.
Irish Senior Nationals:
Liam Kenny beat Derek Ryan while Madeline Perry
accounted for Aisling Blake in the Irish
National Championships. Well done to the Munster players who made
the trip.
Celtic took the S-Tyres Men's First Division title earlier in the season.
Leagues are up and running featuring some of the top Munster players.
The Munster Senior Open 2004:
There were mixed results for Munster players in this year's competition with
Patrick Foster finishing in 3rd. spot, John Hurley on hurling duty with Blarney,
Phil Cuillinane in 9th. place and the Knox Brothers, Daniel Long and Brian Healy
in the second half of the finishing positions. See the full information on the
Munster Senior Open page.
