Kevin Knox has demonstrated great consistency at the highest levels of Irish Squash over the past few seasons, and in the last two sets of this outstanding final he edged out Johnny while demonstrating the intensity and class that makes him Munster No 1 for three consecutive seasons. It is also worth noting that this highly competitive encounter passed off without any major debate with referees - a timely lesson for all of us who play squash in Munster.
The Men's B section was won by Limerick's Clive Morgan. The much improved Ken McCarthy of Sunday's Well fought hard albeit with a partisan crowd at his back, but Morgan finished out his stampede through the B section in emphatic style.
Meanwhile Mark O'Reagan overcame John Kennedy in the "All Waterford" Men's C final. The "Celtic Posse" rarely follow the Knoxs' out of "the Deise" to compete at tournaments, but when they decide to venture out they become the source of ranking headaches and great squash matches. One (anonymous) B finalist watching the C final noted his relief at escaping the Mens C ! Plasterer's have been booked for next week to redo the front wall a Sunday's Well following this encounter.
Highfield's Kenneth Mulhall took on Farook Kahn of Gleneagles in the Men's D final. Mulhall has learned lessons from recent competitions and is now climbing up the rankings. Kahn is showing the benefits of the intense internal competition at Killarney and has also improved his ranking. However Mulhall stole the glory and Farook Kahn limped (literally) back to Kerry.
The Ladies section had a small entry this year (four). This does not do justice to the successful Munster Ladies League that is running this season and every season. Sinead Walsh of Dunhill comprehensively won this title at a precocious 13 years of age.
Thanks to all who participated and officiated.
