Junior Worlds 2010:
This season it's the U19 Boys who competed at the Junior World Championships (next season it will be the girls' turn). The competition was held in the city of Quito in Ecuador - nearly 3,000m above sea-level. The altitude alone posed a challenge for the players as at that altitude there is less oxygen and it can be difficult without acclimatisation.
Having lost to the eventual winners Egypt and surprise package Korea, they beat Caymen Islands and the host nation, Ecuador. In their final match they went down 2-0 to South Africa.
The team comprised Gary Power (M), Rory Birtwistle (U), Michael Stewart (U) and up from the U17 ranks - Conor O'Shea (C). Gary is based in the USA and with a Cork mother and Waterford father he is a welcome addition to the Munster ranks! Full results are available on the competition website. The team coach was our 'own' Eddie Murphy.
Junior Interprovincial Teams:
Congratulations to the juniors who made Munster's Interprovincial teams this season and many thanks to the coaches and managers who accompanied the teams. Check out the full lists here.
Munster Schools Competition:
Presentation Secondary School from Thurles with Josie Power, Ella McLoughney, Áine Symons will represent Munster in the U15 Girls competition at the All Ireland Schools. Clare Meskill, Orla Trihy and Gráinne Kavanagh of St Angela's Ursulines Waterford were the runners-up.
