{"id":1985,"date":"2016-01-12T17:06:44","date_gmt":"2016-01-12T17:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.munstersquash.com\/?p=1985"},"modified":"2016-01-13T11:46:46","modified_gmt":"2016-01-13T11:46:46","slug":"sundays-well-open-roundup-of-the-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.munstersquash.com\/index.php\/sundays-well-open-roundup-of-the-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday&#8217;s Well Open &#8211; Roundup of the event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second Sunday&#8217;s Well squash open took place from December 10 -12<sup>th<\/sup> last.<br \/>\nThe tournament consisted of grades A,B,C &amp; D \u00a0with 8 competitors taking part in each.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The action began on Thursday night &amp; finished with the finals on Saturday evening.<br \/>\nThere was a vast array of youth &amp; experience on display from the youngest player in Sophie O&#8217;Rourke to some of the more seasoned veterans on the local squash scene!<\/p>\n<p>The D section was won by Ger Hogan from Highfield beating his club mate Mark Power 3-2 in a very good final.<br \/>\nTim O&#8217;Callaghan also from Highfield finished in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n<p>The C final was won by Maciej Truchan from the Gleneagle club in Killarney beating James McSweeney of Silversprings in a tough encounter.<br \/>\nMike Mulhall from the home club finished in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place with an excellent 13-11 in the fifth set victory over old rival Donal Coughlan.<\/p>\n<p>The B section final was contested by two Sundays well players Mike Howard &amp; James Doherty, both players had good wins earlier that day over John Dineen &amp; Ken McCarthy respectively to reach the decider. Mike ran out eventual winner of this section after some great squash by both players in the final.<br \/>\nJohn Dineen from Highfield finished in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place with a fine 3-2 victory over Ken McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>In the A section Brian Healy got the better of Ross McNamara in the first semi-final on a 3-2 scoreline.<br \/>\nThe other semi was played out between John Hurley &amp; Martin J. McDonnell with John coming out on top.<\/p>\n<p>The final was a very long tough encounter, Brian took a commanding 10-6 lead in the first, however John recovered to take the set 13-11.\u00a0To his credit Brian bounced back immediately to take the second set convincingly on an 11-5 scoreline. The final two sets were very close with nothing between both players.<br \/>\nIn the end John ran out the eventual winner in what was a very enjoyable final to watch.<\/p>\n<p>Ross McNamara finished in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place with a 14-12 in the fifth set victory over Martin J. McDonnell.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament organisers would like to thank Eddie Murphy for\u00a0filling in the A section to complete the draw at very short notice due to a late withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural Sunday&#8217;s Well Open was last season, and this season this tournament was again a great success.<br \/>\nThe tournament fitted in very nicely to the squash calendar, and hopefully it will continue to grow support over the coming seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Special thanks to the Sunday&#8217;s Well club for making their facilities available over the weekend.<br \/>\nThe courts were immaculate after their recent refurbishments earlier this season, and were a joy to play on, and are a credit to the club.<\/p>\n<p>Also thanks to Mike for looking after us in the bar and laying on some tasty food for the players.<br \/>\nAn excellent night was had by all in the club bar to finish off the event on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, last but not least, thanks to the\u00a0sponsors, the Kilkenny Group, for supporting the tournament\u00a0again this season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second Sunday&#8217;s Well squash open took place from December 10 -12th last.
